Helpful Hints for Common Door Problems

29/08/2011

To prevent common door problems, we have identified a number of helpful hints including painting your external doors, sealing your doors and so much more...

Helpful Hints for Common Door Problems

1.       Painting External Doors Dark Colours

It is important clients are advised doors that will be exposed to direct sunlight need to be finished with light reflective colours. Painting exposed doors dark colours will void the manufacturer’s warranty and increase the chance of warping / twist.

For more information or to learn how to classify between light and dark colours visit www.corinthian.com.au

2.       Sealing of Doors

It is imperial that ALL doors are sealed on all six surfaces – two faces and four edges – with at least two coats of sealer immediately after fitting and before hanging. It is important that this includes behind the hinges and lock and is compatible with the final finish of the door.

For more information on the requirements of sealing, visit www.corinthian.com.au or refer to AS1909 - 1984.

3.       “Show Through” – Gloss Finished Flush Panel Doors

It is estimated over 80% of Flush Panel internal doors ( Readicote doors ) are finished with gloss paint, however AS1908 states “ show through” is not a defect. To minimise the chance of “show through” when a gloss finish is required it is recommended an M&B “Lustre” door is specified. An M&B “Lustre” door is manufactured with a thicker skin ( 4.75mm ) compared to a 3.2mm skin for a standard Readicote. Many builders are using M&B “Lustre” doors to achieve the finish your client expects.

For more information on M&B Lustre Doors visit www.mbsales.net.au

4.       Exposed Flush Panel Doors ( EG Shopper / Store Doors )

Most builders will have experienced a problem with Flush Panel “Garage” or “Store” doors, where the door has failed due to exposure to the elements. The M&B “Weathercote” Elements ( Fibreglass skin ) door is the answer to those exposed situations when the door is going to get a “Hammering” from the harsh Western Australian weather. The M&B Elements “Weathercote” door can be trimmed like any other door and provides builders with a “Fit for Purpose” product.
